Welcome to St. James Computer Lab

We are fortunate to have a very active Fathers' Club. The Dads worked hard last year (2013-2014) to collect funds to purchase Chrome Books for the Lab.

Thank you from all the K-8 students and me!

The students love working on them.

I have enrolled St. James School for Google Classroom to go along with the features that the Chrome Books offer to us. The students have been transitioning to the Google approach to education. The 8th grade students have their own anonymous e-mail addresses that allow them access to Google drive, Google Classroom for assignments and the Nexus 7 tablets.

Some Differences with Chrome Books
  • Google Chrome (browser) is the operating system
  • You cannot install software
  • no mouse, touch pad to click
  • Lessons are Internet based, apps and extensions enhance learning
  • Nothing is stored on the computer, everything is stored on "Google Drive”
  • Docs, Slides, Sheets replace Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Flash is built into Chrome
  • No viruses
The Kindergarten students are using ABCMouse.com to learn Reading and Math Readiness skills.
First Grade and Second Grade are using the website ABCya.com to practice their Reading and Math skills. Starfall.com is also a favorite with the First Graders.
We have been using Google apps for instruction: Kids Typing, Typing Races, Docs and Google Draw.
Grades 6-8 have been learning keyboarding skills on Typingweb.com It allows the students to progress at their pace.

You may have seen some pretty Autumn Collages coming home and some cute "carved" pumpkins. We worked on Google Draw to create the collages. I was happy to purchase a printer that will "talk" with the Chrome Books and donate it to the School. I am happy to be a part of St. James and look forward to working and learning with your children. The students are so happy to create projects in the Computer Lab and print them out to bring home.
